There are two scenarios available to you for building a horse box, either it is made largely of masonry or it is made of wood. This choice will be made according to the cost, the implementation time and the maintenance required.

For a masonry construction the cost is higher than a wooden box but offers less maintenance and for a completely wooden box but on the contrary the construction time is much faster for a completely wooden box.

In all cases, the design of a horse box respects several standards.

First of all, the size of a box is defined according to the size of the horse or pony it accommodates. According to the IFCE, it is recommended to have an interior surface area of ​​between 9 and 12 m² and a height of between 2.5 and 3 m.

The location of the box is important, either it overlooks the interior of the equestrian facility or it overlooks the outside depending on the configuration chosen, the choice of components for your horse box will be oriented accordingly.

We need several elements such as the facade, the stall door and the partitions for the construction of a horse stall.

First of all, the facade can be masonry or wooden with a barred grille or not and necessarily consists of a door.

Certain more specific facades are reserved for livestock-type installations such as the adjustable neck facade or depending on the mechanization of stable cleaning as with the opening facade.

Several choices of box doors are available to you, such asthe double-leaf box door, the sliding box dooretthe single-leaf box door, with barred or swan neck type openings.

Finally, the horse box divider can be sliding, pivoting or fixed. Then depending on the ventilation, brightness and sociability of your animal, you will choose between a solid wooden box separation or a barred separation.

Now, it is necessary to arrange the interior of the box with equipment necessary for its life in the box such as the feeder, the water trough, the rack... The equipment must be distributed in the horse box and most often recommended in corners to save space.

You will have the choice between corner feeders, wall feeders, broodmare feeders with capacities ranging from 16L to 36L.

Then, it is essential that your horse has a water bowl because it is a large consumer of water.

There are different types of drinkers, either constant level or push button automatic drinkers. They must be connected to a water supply. Protecting the water trough is not obligatory but recommended. Don't forget to install a frost protection system when you are subject to harsh winters

Finally, the rack allows you to provide fodder with free access to your horse.
